Let's Get Crankie!
Join us for a playful pop-up workshop where you’ll try your hand at creating a hand-cranked, scroll-style artwork. Offered in collaboration with Bloomington's upcoming CrankieFest, we'll dive into drawing, building, and bringing stories to life, no prior experience needed.

About the event
This hands-on pop-up workshop is centered on a charming, analog storytelling format known as a crankie. This special session is offered in collaboration with We’re Crankie, the local organizers behind Bloomington’s first-ever CrankieFest, taking place April 18.
In this two-hour workshop, participants will draw and assemble their own illustrated paper scroll, then animate it by turning a hand crank to reveal the scene piece by piece. Crankies are a playful, approachable way to explore sequencing, movement, and visual narrative, perfect for experimenting without overthinking the outcome.
In addition to building their own crankie to take home, participants will also contribute to bfa.supply’s own crankie, which will be featured at the festival this spring. All materials are provided.
