First Friday Art Lab

Enjoy Bloomington’s First Friday art and culture offerings while your young artist-in-residence spends the evening in our Creative Commons studio. Designed for ages 5–12, Art Lab is a safe, welcoming space where kids can experiment with new materials, make new friends (or bring one along!), and dive into lightly structured, hands-on projects.

Each month includes a studio visit with a local artist and a fresh lineup of activities inspired by their practice, with all materials and pizza dinner provided. Kids work at their own pace and move freely between projects, making Art Lab a relaxed, engaging way to kick off the weekend. For our 2/6 session, we’re thrilled to feature visiting artist Rachel Dobias. Together, we’ll explore appliqué and stitching - learning how this form of ‘fabric collage’ can tell a story.
